The aim of the study was to determine the effect of two different peat materials on odour and ammonia emission from pig slurry. Dark peat and weakly decomposed Sphagnum peat were mixed with fresh pig slurry in different proportions. During the six week test the mixes were investigated in respect of pH, odour, ammonia and methane emission The study showed that peat addition is efficient in ammonia and odour emission from slurry storage. Dark peat seemed to be slightly more efficient than weakly decomposed peat. A considerable decrease in both ammonia and odour was attained with 40 % peat addition. The study also gave an in indication that peat decreases methane production in stored slurry.
