This paper presents the project lay-out of a study, in which the cutover mire bottom was fertilized with wood and peat ashes from the local power and heating plants together with the side products from fertilizer industries and waste management. The early afforestation of the areas was monitored and compared to the afforestation of unfertilized plots. The quality and quantity of run-off waters from the area were also measured. A naturally born 30 years old mixed tree stand was harvested in order to study the harvesting technology and costs. The detailed results are given in separate posters and oral presentations.
