摘要

The paper focuses on cultural aspects of the peateries and deals in particular with the way Dutch and German peat bogs were the subject matter for painters, sculptors, photographers and writer. As it turns out peat bogs were never a popular theme for Dutch landscape artist although Vincent van Gogh decided that he wanted to be painter for good when he was staying in the peat bogs of Drenthe in 1883. In Germany even a colony of painters developed in Worpswede, a village in the peat bogs northeast of Bremen in the 1890's.
