Palaeobotanical studies were carried out on three raised mires in Poland. The bogs are situated in the mountains, on the upland and in the lowlands. The study was aiming at: (1) reconstruction of subfossil plant communities, (2) valuation of hydrological conditions of the site at different phases of mire development. Reconstruction of past phytocoenoses, based on macrofossil analyses, illustrated the real plant succession stages from mire origins until today. Taking advantage of moisture number indices elaborated for individual plant species, the average moisture of subfossil plant communities has been determined. This enabled the identification of moisture site conditions, in a ten-degree scale, on bog surface, at different stages. The age of peat samples was dated by the radiocarbon method.
