The load bearing elements of a light construction building, the walls and the floors are layered structures. The gaps between the steel frame elements are filled by insulating materials and the surface panel covers the elements. The pillar profiles and the beam profiles of the load bearing frame create the thermal bridges inside the structures. The usual forms of light construction building systems are wood-framed and steel-framed houses. One can find the thermal bridge effects in both types. Because of the good thermal conductivity of the steel, there is a significant waste of heat, in spite of the small cross section of the profiles. The regular placing of frame elements leads to relatively many linear thermal bridges. They try to reduce that effect with exterior heat insulation, which covers the complete building envelope. Nevertheless an increased thermal defense is necessary at geometrical thermal bridges and at complicated structural details.
