Over-The-Horizon (OTH) radars are oftenrequired to detect spatially spread target echoes in thepresence of spatially structured interference from naturaland man-made sources. This paper compares the experimentalspatial processing performance of the conventionalbeamformer, adaptive matched filter and an adaptive subspacedetector (ASD) that takes both the spatial structureof the interference and the possibility of target wavefrontdistortions into account. Performance is evaluated in termsof target signal-to-noise ratio, azimuthal localisation ofuseful signals and false alarm rate characteristics usingarray data recorded by the Jindalee sky-wave OTH radarsystem, located near Alice Springs in central Australia.
