The successful deployment of modern Air Defense Systems require the effective interaction of allsystem components, in particular sensors, effectors and the combat management system. Therefore itis important not only for new systems but also for existing systems to assess the systems ability tocope with threats adequately. It is obvious, that the user’s expectation of ?system success‘ has to bemet, and therefore the user’s point of view will give a strong indication about the selection of sensibleassessment criteria. These criteria are generally referred to as Measures of Effectiveness (MoE) andare applicable on systems level. The MoEs will not replace performance parameters of systems,subsystems or components but will complement them to get an overall assessment.The presentation gives an overview of the developed simulation instrument SyLES (System LevelEffectiveness Simulation), its purpose and its application opportunities. The simulation tool runs on asingle Laptop/PC and is using Matlab packages extensively. Further, for a simplified Air Defensescenario, the results of Monte Carlo runs will be shown to illustrate the chosen approach.
