The idea to our project "Science in Space" came from researchers involved in a scientific project in the field of structural biology. We understood the need to motivate students to do science through a very stimulating subject. People with different interests contributed to it: researchers in life, chemical and physical sciences, in science education and in educational use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). With this wide interdisciplinary scientific background, we chose the broad subject of "Science in Space and the Exploration of Microgravity". The project is designed to last one school year. The students can tackle all kinds of topics with the common factor of microgravity exploration. For the experimental activities of the project we focused for example on the study of protein structure and its crystallisation in laboratories on Earth and in a weightless environment. Considering the curricular integration of the subjects under study, the main target group of the project are students from secondary schools (15-18 years old)
