It is considered that a transmission tower constructed by the current-wind resistant design method has enough seismic resistant performance. Necessity of the comparative study of both performances is pointed out regarding large transmission towers after occurrence of the Hyogoken-nanbu Earthquake. In this paper, the relation between wind and seismic resistant performances about transmission towers of 275 kV was investigated. At first, five transmission tower models with different heights were selected. Then, dynamic response analyses using three seismic waves as a seismic load, and static analyses using current wind resistant design load were carried out and the comparative investigation based on the numerical results was performed focusing axial forces occurred in main leg members. In the numerical results, when the seismic wave recorded at Kobe Marine Observatory during the Hyogoken-nanbu Earthquake was applied, we found that there are some cases exceeding the axial forces by current wind resistant design load.
