A reduced stiffness lower bound buckling strength for axially loaded sandwich cylindrical shell is proposed for when the shell is subjected to additional constant external uniform lateral pressure. The same is compared to that of the purely axially loaded sandwich cylindrical shell. In addition, it is compared with the FEM lower bound for verification. The additional constant uniform lateral pressure reduces the classical and reduced stiffness buckling strengths. Its effect on the FEM lower bound of axially loaded sandwich cylindrical shell is almost negligible. However, the relevant initial geometric imperfection reduces. This reduction is caused by the lateral deformation caused by the applied constant uniform lateral pressure. Further, the proposed reduced stiffness lower bound buckling strength avoids the uncertainty of consequences associated with both initial geometric imperfections and external uniform lateral pressure.
