Steel box-section pier with round corners (round-corner box-section pier) has originally been proposed for the point of aesthetic. However, its superior performance under seismic situations compared to that of normal right angle-corner pier has drawn attention among researchers. Even though, understanding is limited that the influence of size of the round corner on its performance and properties are not well known. Therefore, an attempt is made here to examine the influence of size of the round-corner on properties such as nonlinear behavior, ultimate strength and energy absorption capacity of unstiffened and stiffened steel box-section piers. The piers are subjected to vertical static plus horizontal cyclic loading to simulate seismic loading conditions and several different width-thickness ratios of the cross-section are considered.
