摘要

In the fall of 2004, the Regional Government of the Foshan District commissioned an urban design competition for a 5.2 kilometer area of the Sanshui District. This proposal, developed by SWiMcau (Sanders Wang MacLeod international consortium for architecture & urbanism) of Jakarta, Beijing and Florida, USA and PLT Planners of Hong Kong received a first place award. The proposal investigates the issue of working within a complex contextual tapestry while anticipating a significant pattern of growth driven by a flourishing manufacturing, cultural, political, transportation (Guangzhou-Foshan municipal belt) and tourism base. In this scheme, SWiMcau offers a strategy of resistance and emergence. Resisting the option to simply erase the history of the site and superimpose a new idealized formal order, we have opted for an urban design tactic of emergence.
