摘要

Formulating coating emulsions containing a conventional fluxing agent is a current way to obtain proper workability for cold mixes, but, the fluxing agent remains in the material and soften it for a long time. A novel process, based on the incorporation of a reactive fluxing component, has been devised to overcome this problem. The reactive fluxing agent gradually reacts by in situ oxidation and polymerisation, hence progressively increasing binder viscosity and giving enhanced mechanical properties. The characteristics of such reactive emulsions are presented. The performances of cold mixes have been evaluated, just after mixing and in the long term. The results obtained in the laboratory have been validated on the LCPC fatigue test track and then on full scale trial sections. The mix behavior has been followed during manufacturing and placement. Its in-place performance is now being monitored closely.
