Gold nanoparticles were prepared by the reduction of HAuCl_4 in CTAB/octane+1-butanol/H_2O reverse micelle system using NaBH_4 as reducing agent. These gold nanoparticles were characterized by UV/Vis absorption spectrum and TEM with electron diffraction. Various ligands, such as alkylthiols with different chain length and shape, trioctylphosphine, pyridine were used to passivate the gold nanoparticles for the purpose of self―organization. Nearly monodispersed gold colloids were obtained when using dodecanethiol C_(12)H_(25)SH as ligand for Au particles. Self-organization of these gold nanoparticles into 1D, 2D and 3D superlattices was observed on the carbon-coated copper grid by TEM.
