This paper deals with the effects of various convective liquid metal regimes on the melting of additions in liquid metals. The cases of forced convection with aiding and transverse natural convection are investigated. An identification of convection regimes, natural and forced is carried using the buoyancy parameter, defined here as G = Gr/Re~2. These effects were studied with the aid of a mathematical model which solved energy and momentum equations. The moving boundary was track down using the heat integration method. The very long horizontal cylinder and the sphere were the two shapes of additions investigated. Results for liquid aluminum and liquid steel are reported. In addition different findings are presented. In these findings model predictions are compared against existing experimental results. A very reasonable agreement was obtained.
