This paper proposes a novel robust image watermarking in which a logo watermark is embedded into the discrete multi-wavelet transform domain (DMWT) of an image. It is found that there are two characters in the low frequency band of the multi-wavelet domain. One is that the mean of corresponding coefficients in four subblocks is more stable than a single coefficient, and the other is that it is easily recognized whether a coefficient point is a smooth point or not by the difference between two corresponding coefficients in two subblocks. According to these unique characters, the watermark is embedded into the multiwaelet doman by quantizing the mean of corresponding coefficients in four subblocks. The quantization interval is decided by the character of the HVS based on the second character. Experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to the traditional wavelet-based quantization method.
