Large amount of scallops are cultured and fished in northern parts of Japan. Scallops are marketed after cutting off their internal organs containing small amount of cadmium. The accumulating wastes of cadmium-containing internal organs of scallops (uro) develop into a serious environmental problem in the fishing areas of scallops. For the purpose of dissolving this environmental problem, cadmium was removed from uro by means of leaching with citric acid solution. The leached cadmium was adsorbed on adsorption gel prepared from apple juice residues. The effects of citric acid concentration and pH on the leaching and adsorption were examined by batch wise and column adsorption tests.
