The Boron-Doped Diamond (BDD) electrode is a new electrode material with high stability, even at high anodic potential. Furthermore BDD is not prone to fouling. Due to these properties, BDD can provide new opportunities in electrochemical synthesis of organic and inorganic compounds. Two examples are given to demonstrate the feasibility of electroorganic synthesis on BDD anodes. The first example is the oxidation of phenol to benzoquinone, an important intermediate in fine organic synthesis. The second example is the oxidation of 3-methylpiridine to nicotinic acid, an important pharmaceutical intermediate. Two strong inorganic oxidants have been prepared using BDD anodes: the Ag(I) to Ag(Ⅱ) oxidation and the oxidation of sulfate to peroxodisulfate.
