In this paper, we present a brief introduction to the hydraulic turbine runner cracks and their treatment measures both in china and outside china, analysis mechanism of the crack occurrence by the hydrodynamics principle .It is thought to be one of the most important dynamics reasons that at trailing edge, there are the obvious Karman vortex street and its characteristic frequency F, and the excited force P of flow vortices. Here, we deduce the formula to calculate frequency F and excited force P, by analyzing the latest CFD technique applied in hydraulic turbine runner design process, we bring up the modern design technique for hydraulic turbine runner.
