Professional competency in geotechnical engineering is based both on the knowledge of fundamental principles which govern the behaviour of the works and the relevant experience on projects. This in-situ experience can be supplemented by information contained in the scientific literature and reports relating to comparisons of numerical results and in-situ or laboratory measurements. The conclusions drawn from these studies are indispensable to the understanding of the behaviour of geotechnical works. The Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussees (LCPC) in partnership with the Ecole Centrale de Nantes is working out two databases gathering all the comparisons measurements - numerical results with reference to any type of geotechnical works. In this paper, an analysis of the information contained in the databases regarding retaining walls is proposed. It intends to provide a preliminary analysis of the modelling error dispersion.
