The mass movements represent one of the main forces driving the geomorphologic evolution in the central-southern portion of the Marchean region peri-Adriatic belt (Italy). The present work examines the case of Montegiorgio, representative of the main landslide of the area, for which numerous data have been acquired through detailed geological and geomorphologic analyses and in-depth hydrogeological, geotechnical and geophysical studies. A 3D physical model has been reconstructed for use as a numerical analysis based on a finite differences method. The modelling carried out must be understood as a simplified attempt to understand a very complex phenomenon produced over a very long time-span. What is tested is the real evolution, at present time, of the slope only regarding the clayey bedrock and the probable implication of two sandy layers, with high permeability and containing a phreatic surface, on the global system equilibrium.
