The present work presents a back analysis of 1996 Quitite debris flow through the use of the computer program Flo-2D (O'Brien, 2001). Flo-2D solves Navier Stokes equations of continuity and motion particularized for surface flow. The parametric study, taking into account input data collected throughout field investigations focused, in particular, on the mobility of flow debris, the travel distance, its maximum velocity and the deposition depth along the channel. Results are compared to those ones obtained using simplified models by Macias et al. (1997). Attempts are also made in order to couple the program Flo-2D with the program Shalstab for predicting the extension of failed zones in shallow basins.
