Non Destructive Testing methods have been applied to 95 structural composite I-beams coming from four SMEs. The beams have also statically tested to try to assess correlations with their strength and stiffness. NDT vibration method appears to be an efficient tool to characterise short term stiffness of composite beams. The same experimental mean values by vibration method and four-point static bending test has been found. It is also equal to a calculation according to ENV-1995 standard. The variability of the experimental results is the same in both cases. It shows that the production process can be improved. Bending tests up to failure have been performed on 59 I-beams. Estimated strength shows a large discrepancy and cannot be correlated to rigidity. Non-linearity of the behaviour of the beams and mixed failure modes are part of the explanation.
