摘要

Computer simulations were used to investigate the application of the Compton backward scattering for γ-densitometry. The results obtained using the~(241) Am isotope as a gamma source, showed that the method would be useful in non-destructive wood density measurements. The measured mass absorption coefficient value is decreased in comparison with the theoretical value due to the γ-ray collimating system used in the transmission gamma densitometry. Therefore, the calibration seems necessary and the implementation of an isotropic material during the calibration process is strongly recommended.
