摘要

As a result of evolution over millions of years biological structures are highly optimised. Beside the aspect of optimum shape and structure the use of suitable material is of main importance to reach highest adaptation to existing loads. At the base of trees external loads are transferred into the soil due to the root swellings. Distribution of drilling resistance and strength properties at the base of trees have been determined for different species having different root systems. The drilling resistance was measured in the root swellings and between them by use of IML-Resi F300 E. Afterwards an increment core was taken from those places and radial and tangential bending strength, shear strength and longitudinal compression strength has been determined by the use of Fractometer Ⅲ. In addition wood anatomical investigations have been done. Dependent on the species different distributions have been established.
