The present study was undertaken to investigate whether gender-related differential induction of peritoneal macrophage alternative activation is involved in the gender dimorphism of tumor growth observed in the xenograft tumor mice models. 106 murine liver tumor cell line Heps suspended in 200μL RPMI1640 medium were subcutaneously injected into the right flank of ICR mices in each group (n = 6). Tumors in male groups are larger than the ones in female group. Peritoneal macrophage displays alternative activation with high arginase activity in Heps tumor-bearing mice. Mannose receptor(CD206) expression is higher in peritoneal macrophage in male group than that of in female group. These studies might provide explanations for gender dimorphism of tumor growth and provide research data for clinical tumor therapy.
