In the current paper, fly ash was used for construction of glass, based on the fact that its composition is similar to the system of glass (CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3). For the preparation of colored glass, several proportions of fly ash were used, with the addition of sodium carbonate for suitable ratio SiO_2/Na_2CO_3. In certain samples, egyptian sand was added in order to increase SiO_2 percentage. Materials were mixed and melted at 1450℃ for 2 hours. During the thermal treatment of fly ash, there is an alteration in the color of the vitrified ash, attributable to the participation of different oxides in phases formation. Hydrothermal treatment demonstrated that the vitrified product presents water-glass behavior. Measurements of density fluctuates between 2.5-2.6g/cm~3 and hardness values verify that the product can be classified as glass.
