Steam turbines, in both nuclear and fossil power plants are the main important auxiliary equipment. Over the years, power plants have experienced various events of turbine failures e.g. failure of shafts, blade roots. These failures have been disastrous and with little warning. Such failures have lead to unscheduled outages and long plant down time. Uncovering of fracture in multiple fork blade roots, during routine turbine inspections is a cause for concern. The objectives were to present an analysis of stress characteristics of a multiple fork blade roots under static condition The approach was to model the blade roots; perform a static FEA; analyse the stress behaviour when self induced cracks are introduced and when both the outer fingers have been broken. Analysis concluded that failure of inner fingers would always be preceded by failure of adjacent outer fingers. Stress concentration experienced by the lower locking pinholes is minimal compared with upper locking pinholes.
