Bridgestone is one of the first tyre manufacturers to introduce the technology needed to replace conventional dual tyres bus and truck drive axles with single ultra-low aspect ratio unit. While the so-called GMD (Greatec Mega Drive) concept poses considerable performance challenges, the advantage are very significant for weight reduction, lower rolling resistance, narrower dimensions and so on. Each GMD tyre is required to support the load and torque that would be shared by two tyres on conventional dual-mounted axles; it is therefore subjected to very heavy working conditions. Bridgestone invented unique belt and bead constructions to provide incredible durability for GMD. Bridgestone will present such invention.
