摘要

Viscosity reduction of natural rubber during mastication is a pre-requisite process for many rubber producers. Chemical peptisers are widely used at this point. Their usage is not without drawbacks though. Temperature is important, too low a temperature will reduce the effectiveness of the chemical additives, higher temperatures may result in over mastication. Chemical peptisers are not specific in their action, they will break both long and short chains and the resulting increase in very short chain polymer may be undesirable in polymers destined for use in dynamic loading applications. Struktol~(~R) HT 105 is a viscosity reducing chemical which acts preferentially on the longer chains within the polymer, molecular weight distribution remains narrow and this has a favourable influence on dynamic properties and on service performance such as heat build up. Molecular weight distribution data as well as processing and viscoelastic dynamic data will be presented.
