Activated sludge process model is a well-known tool for optimum design and control of wastewater treatment plant. In this study, ASM2d (Activated Sludge Model No. 2) was used to investigate the UltraCLEAN process. Under the various wastewater of different COD/N ratio (10, 7.5 and 5), the aeration and feeding strategies were optimized and efficiency at each condition was compared. When COD/N ratio was 10, the removal efficiencies of nitrogen and phosphorus were 89% and 82%, respectively. Nitrogen in effluent was stable during the experimental periods, but phosphorus removal efficiencies varied with operation conditions. It was observed that lower COD/N ratio resulted in higher removal efficiency of phosphorus in the range of 7.5 and 5. It was supposed to be a role of denitrifying-dephosphoration, which was only detected in low COD/N ratio condition. Experimental results were used tc estimate model parameters. Nine important parameters were estimated, and the calibrated model with estimated parameters was used to simulate the behaviors of the UltraCLEAN process under various conditions of different HRT, SRT and wastewater of COD/N ratio. And their effects on effluent concentration were evaluated.
