Argos system, a satellite-based device widely used to collect environmental data in a variety of application, was used to track the migratory Ciconia boyciana. During the summers of 1999 and 2000, a total of ten Ciconia boyciana nestlings were banded with 35 grams solar powered microwave PIT-100 transmitters. The Ciconia boyciana migrated to about 3,000 km from the major birds wintering site in the Poyang Lake in China to the main breeding site in the Heilongjiang (Amur) River basin in China and Russia. In this study we overlaid the location point data extracted from field equipment PTT-100 transmitters to the average monthly and 10-days composed NOAA and SPOT/VEGETATION Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) raster data utilizing remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). The analysis of 'green moving' is also conducted based on the information. It was discovered that there is significant correlation relation between the seasonal change of NDVI and seasonal movement of Ciconia boyciana.
