The Rhine is an international river, a busiest waterway in Northwest Europe and also an important water supply source for the Rhine riparian countries. This paper briefly reviews the Rhine Action Programme and the Rhine Action Plan on Flood Defense as well as the international cooperation mechanism. Some points from their experiences are drawn to benefit current healthy river initiative in China, such as problem — oriented solution, integrated management, quantitative evaluation and effective cooperation mechanism etc.
