摘要

This paper describes a joint project between Delft University of Technology, supported by WL Delft Hydraulics in the use of the Deltf3D modelling software system, and Tsinghua University, Beijing, in collaboration with the Yellow River Conservancy Commission. It concerns morphological modelling of the Lower Yellow River, taking account of the complex sediment transport processes taking place there. The first phase of the project involves an exploratory study by Dutch and Chinese postdocs, meant to establish the collaboration network, to assess the state of the art, to mobilise relevant data and to test the present knowledge against those data. Moreover, the project involves further research into highly concentrated flow mechanisms by researchers from the participating institutes. These activities should lead to the definition of the second phase, meant to make a stride forward in fine sediment modelling for the Lower Yellow River via a number of interlinked PhD - projects in either country.
