Relationship between the incoming of water and sediment and regulation of the bed configuration, as well as the control discharge which restores the flood passing capacity in the downstream channel were studied through analyzing on the result of model experiment and variation of the water and sediment which were recorded after Xiaolangdi dam was put into effect. The results indicate that it is very important to adjust and regulate upper and lower limits of discharge with Xiaolangdi Reservoir to shape the LYR rational structure of main channel and floodplain. The upper limit should be determined according to the change of bankfull discharge in the downstream of YR which can increase the scouring effect on the bed. And the 600 m~3/s of lower limit should be better than 800 m~3/s, which could not only save the scarce water resources to maintain the Yellow River healthy life, but also prevent the aggradation.
