Abstract: The non-linear inverse scattering problem, occurring inthe field of microwave tomography for biomedicalapplications, is solved with the Newton-type iterativealgorithm. This method allows the reconstruction of thecomplex permittivity of strongly inhomogeneous objects.An ill-conditioned system of linear equations isobtained at each iteration and is regularized usingTikhonov's method. The choice of regularization iscrucial, specially when random error is present in thedata. We investigate the Generalized Cross Validationmethod for choosing the regularization parameter.Numerical examples are given in the case of 2D TMinverse problems.!29
