Network Rail’s Signalling Tools And Methods Programme (STAMP) is an efficiency driven developmentrnprogramme which takes a ‘Once In Many Times Out’ approach to the automation of data exchange as itsrnprincipal objective. A modular development programme itself delivers via a number of dependent, but separaternworkstreams ensuring that more efficient tools and methods (processes) are deployed without the inherent risksrnimposed via ‘mega’ development projects.rnThe heart of the signalling toolset is a XML based Signalling Data Exchange Format (SDEF). This allows thernintelligence applied to the data within the engineering design to be exchanged with other tools, systems andrnprocesses in a consistent and robust manner without the intervention of the human and the inherent introductionrnof errors.rnThe tools themselves are all designed to be an ‘aid’ to the user, that is the competence remains with thernengineer.
