This paper will cover the innovative and varied approaches that are being designed and implemented as part ofrnthe overall strategy to improve the infrastructure in the Union Station Rail Corridor (USRC) for GO Transit inrnthe City of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The approaches include:rn1. Achieving speeds through special trackwork of 48 km/h on divergent routes and 72 km/h on tangentrntrack speeds.rn2. The exploration of intiernswitch machine technologyrn3. The challenge of providing an LED that will comply with Transport Canada’s guidelines while beingrnAREMA compliantrn4. The introduction of a fully integrated control, monitoring and management facility encompassing allrnsignalling, electrical and communications subsystems (Network Management System) to increasernefficiency of operations and maintenance, with multisiternand multiuserrncontrolled access.
