A statistical hybrid predictive emission monitoring system (PEMS) has been deployed at a site inrnNorth America to meet local regulatory and United States Environmental Protection Agencyrn(U.S. EPA) requirements for continuous monitoring of pollutant emissions. This paper discussesrnspecific implementations of a unique cost-effective statistical hybrid PEMS on gas and liquidfiredrnboilers. The PEMS model was certified to within 2% accuracy for stack gas velocity andrnvolumetric flow rate. The PEMS was installed to replace existing continuous emissionrnmonitoring system (CEMS) that were at the end of their functional lifespan. In each instancernthe predictive engine operated on training data using existing process control input parametersrnand historical CEMS data as required to develop a robust empirical model of the emissions.rnEach model was subsequently evaluated using standard U.S. EPA performance specification testrnmethods. The results of PEMS performance testing confirmed the PEMS capable of meeting thernaccuracy requirements including the stack gas flow. The data from the boilers are presentedrnalong with additional information regarding the quality assurance and quality control proceduresrnput in place and the costs to support the ongoing operation of the deployed compliance statisticalrnhybrid PEMS.
