The challenges encountered by developing countries involved in the Oil and Gas industries are many and may includes lack of infrastructure, non availability of competent contractors / spare parts and logistic problems. Hence a metering system which may be suitable for application in the more developed countries of the world may not necessarily be selected in a developing economy when the total cost of ownership of such a system is considered.One important contribution of the Engineering profession to the Challenges of Developing Countries involved in the Oil & Gas production is in the area of selecting appropriate metering system for crude oil and gas industries.The problem of how to meter Oil/Water/Gas mixtures is still a significant one even in the Oil and Gas industries. Considerable research has been conducted into the development of a three-phase flow meter suitable for use in the Oil and Gas production facilities, and a number of commercial instruments are now available in the developed countries.This paper discusses which of the three-phase flow measurement is appropriate for developing countries involved in the Oil & Gas production, the main strategies which may be used to meter three-phase flow, and present a type that has been tested in a developing country.The economic gains for using the type of MPFM tested include increased production, increased recovery, and a lower investment cost. The uncertainty of using such a system is also considered.
