The emergence of new methods of gathering open source intelligence, combined with the recent social push to upload personal data to the web, creates a unique time in history when information leakage has become one of the leading attack vectors used by attackers.rnForward thinking Operational Security professionals should strive to understand what is available and what can be done to limit the exposure of such information. By limiting the online profile, which ultimately reduces the potential exposure from the online perspective, the balance of security and solicitation can be reached. The articulation for online posting of material can be a simple matter, provided that a basic examination of the documentation is performed. Provided that the document has a business motivator and possesses only information that would ordinarily be found elsewhere, the OSINT levels to such a release would have little or no value.rnDue diligence and heightened awareness to information leakage, coupled with a greater understanding of the operational security (OPSEC) of an organization, will result in a more robust and strengthened approach for business and ensure that the millions of "all seeing eyes" pass right on by.rnThrough an awareness of the threat that OSINT may confer to an organization, both security and business professionals are able to branch from an understanding of necessity and correct the problem. Through the knowledge of significant forms of data, the methodology to be used, useful tools, and potential sources of information, a broader awareness of the vital data that has become public can be made available to any specific organization.rnIn an age of Internet domination, elite security professionals and the Intelligence community as a whole, cannot overlook the emerging trend of OSINT in the protection of Industrial processes and the assets that are supporting these activities.
