Crumb aggregate concrete has lots of excellent characteristics and is a new research hot spot in the field of concrete material. It has rather wide application future. While the chief shortcoming of crumb aggregate concrete is its relative low strength. One of the reasons is the weak bonding between crumb and matrix. Therefore improving the binding between crumb and matrix has important significance for increase strength of crumb aggregate concrete. To improve the interface binding between crumb and matrix, in the laboratory the redispersible polymer powder(RPP) and RPP +superplasticizer(ASPC) were mixed with Crumb Rubber Mortar (CRM). The influence of RPP, RPP +ASPC and crumb size on the strength of CRM were studied respectively. And the function mechanism of RPP and RPP +ASPC on increase interface binding and CRM strength was also explored. The results indicate that:(l) addition both of RPP and RPP +ASPC could improve the strength of CRM, and the improvement effectiveness of adding RPP+ASPC was better than adding RPP; (2) RPP could wrap the crumb particle and the continuous membrane was formed on the crumb particle; the dispersion of cement and crumb particle increased due to the addition of ASPC, and then compound membrane was formed by ASPC and RPP, which improve the interface binding between crumb and matrix and the strength of CRM; (3) the strength of CRM could be also improved when crumb size was modest.
