摘要

Dynamic light scattering (DLS) method has been applied to particle size measurement in agitated liquid suspensions. Measurements are achieved using an optical fibre probe and calibrated particles of 0.1, 0.33 μm and 35 nm size. The solutions were mechanically stirred during the measurements. The influence of the stirring speed and of the probe location on the apparent radius from DLS can still be described by the Stokes-Einstein law if the convective component of the diffusion coefficient is taken into account. Such a device and calibration could be used to measure and control the actual size of sub-micronic particles or droplets in stirred (continuous or batch) reactors - provided the local turbulence does not considerably perturb the Brownian motion.
