The RTA is providing regional coordination for the development and implementation ofrnITS as part of its commitment to developing technological solutions to traditionalrntransportation problems. The BusInfo system is the RTA's solution to the problem ofrnproviding reliable "next bus" information for its bus operating agencies: the ChicagornTransit Authority (CTA) and Pace Suburban Bus. The system will be the focal point forrnprocessing, storing and disseminating real-time bus service information to otherrntransportation operators and to the traveling public. This paper covers the RTA'srnplanning, design, and development experience in implementing an integrated regional,rnmulti-agency ITS system.
