摘要

The present study clarifies the visual recognition performance of elderly people in readingrnChinese characters. Chinese characters were randomly displayed in two-character compoundsrnon a personal computer screen. The number of Chinese characters was changed in three steps,rnand the relation between the reading time and the number of characters was investigated. Onernhundred and thirty subjects participated in this study (age 20s to 80s). The results showed thatrnreading time tended to increase with age. A new formula to estimate the time required for eachrnage group to read displayed information was also developed.
