π-Conjugated polymers possessing elements or elements-containing building blocks (i.e., elements-blocks) are expected to exhibit unique functions originated from the nature of the elements-blocks. In order to prepare various elements-block π-conjugated polymers, we have been working on the synthesis and reactions of organometallic polymers possessing reactive metallacycles such as titanacyclopentadienes.That is, the regio-regular organotitanium polymers were converted into π-conjugated polymers possessing various elements-blocks such as thiophene, thiophene-1-oxide, selenophene, tellurophene, stannole, phosphole, stibole, and bismole. Herein, the organotitanium polymers were subjected to the simultaneous reactions with plural electrophilic reagents to obtain π-conjugated polymers possessing multiple elements-blocks. For example, π-conjugated polymers containing electron-rich and electron-deficient elements-blocks such as thiophene and phosphole sulfide (4a-SPS) were obtained by the reactions of the organotitanium polymer (1a) with S_2Cl_2 and PhPCl_2 in one-shot (Scheme 1). Optoelectronic properties of the polymers possessing multiple elements-blocks are also described.
