Application of electron accelerator has been carried out in Indonesia since 300 keV, 20 A and 2 MeV 200 mA electron beam equipments were installed in BATAN Pasar Jum'at, Jakarta. Both of them are used to radiation curing of surface coating and cable irradiation. EB Flue Gas treatment is interested after coal power plant had problem concerning to SO_x and NO_x emission regulation. After January 2000, to the maximum of SO_2 emission is limited to 750 mg/m~3 and NO_x emission is limited to 850 mg/m~3. Mean while availability of coal deposit contain less than 0,5 % sulfur is less than 10%. It means most of coal will produce SO_x emission higher than 750 mg/m~3. Indonesia Power Company as one of government company and part of national electric company is aware of that our power plant will face some problem in the future. Indonesia Power Company requested to BATAN to apply nuclear technology for reducing SO_x emission to obey the above government regulation in Suralaya Power Plant located at West Java, Indonesia. Suralaya Power Plant has been chosen to study EB Flue Gas Treatment, because Suralaya Power Plant is the most difficult to install flue gas treatment and hasn't possibilities if utilize a conventional technology. For doing this request, BATAN started to study EB Flue Gas Treatment in January 2001 after joint operation Memorandum of Understanding on application of EB Flue Gas Treatment in Power Plant between BATAN (National Nuclear Energy Agency), BPPT (Technology Implementation and Assessment Agency) and Indonesia Power Company was signed. In this case, Indonesia Power Company as a utility of flue gas treatment installation and the biggest owner of Power Plant in Indonesia, BPPT is the one of agency to study appropriate energy requirement in Indonesia, and BATAN has task promote and implement nuclear technology.
