The effect of Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM) in improving the yield in sugarcane was studies at 100% and 75% phosphorus levels. Three Sugarcane varieties 93V297, CoC85036, Co91002 were evaluated for their yield and other parameters at these two different phosphorus levels. The response of the three sugarcane varieties was very much encouraging and there is a significant yield improvement in different varieties of sugarcane that have been tested. The yield improvement varied from 7.50 MT/ha. to 12.00 MT/ha. at 75% phosphorus level + 12.5 kg. VAM/ha. and this seems to be the critical level for phosphorus application for attaining positive results without having any impact on other parameters. The mycorrhizal infection is also studies by staining the roots and typical mycorrhizal structures (Arbuscules and vesicles) were observed. We are presenting the field data on the above aspects from Vuyyuru sugar factory area.
