To address these flight safety issues, the Independent Pilots Association operates a response based, pilot oriented flight safety program. It is a well organized, yet grass-roots program and so could be called, "Safety: Beginning at the Bottom." It is intended to bring the accident rate to zero. The purpose of the immediate intervention, interim remediation and long-term resolution process is to prevent an accident while other safety programs address and eliminate safety hazards. In like manner, when safety hazards take a long period of time to resolve, the response based program gives recommended practices and techniques to keep the IPA member safe day to day. The full gamut of safety issues which line pilots may face can be readily addressed by at least one of the IPA Safety Committees. Does the program work? So far, so good. With worldwide operations, IPA pilots have been operating UPS aircraft safely for over 12 years. The future may well see a joint IPA-UPS Safety program, which could be a decisive factor in keeping the accident rate at zero!
