This paper discusses the introduction effect of the combined heat and power (CHP) system for a new heat supply district in Kitakyushu. The energy consumption intensity of Kitakyushu can be inferred according to the energy consumption intensity of Tokyo. By utilizing the floor area and energy consumption intensity of different types of buildings, the energy requirements in the new heat supply district is calculated. Moreover, four cases, namely the single air conditioner system, the boiler system, the CHP with tracking heating and the CHP with tracking electricity, are analyzed. Simultaneously, the energy consumption, the CO2 emission intensity, the initial cost, the running cost and the pay back years are discussed. The results indicate that the CHP system is favorable when considering the energy consumption, CO2 emission intensity and running cost.
